Barnesville Expansion
Barnesville, Maryland
Wilets Architecture worked with a family in the Town of Barnesville, Maryland to expand and rejuvenate their timber-frame house, originally built in the 1980’s. During Phase I of the project, timber elements were artfully re-introduced with Arts & Crafts inspired porch beams, fireplace mantel, and large trusses in the new kitchen and great room. Fieldstone was introduced at the porch and landscaping walls, plus as a stacked veneer to embellish their living room fireplace. A long covered porch along the rear accommodates outdoor living and offers bucolic vistas of neighboring farmland and Sugarloaf Mountain. The walk-in pantry offers plenty of storage, and the new bathroom serves as a changing area for their adjacent swimming pool and hot tub. Phase II work involved building a new office and yoga loft over 2-car garage, linked to the main house via an enclosed breezeway entry outfitted with custom built-ins.
